As a Senior Associate at K&A, Susan’s deep connection and commitment to her clients, adept problem-solving and organizational skills, as well as meticulous attention to detail, have made her an indispensable part of the firm’s continued design excellence for over two decades. Since joining the firm in 1994, Susan has been involved in the design, development, and management of a wide variety of new construction and rehabilitation projects through all phases of planning, documentation, and construction. She has contributed her design and technical proficiency to a myriad of both market-rate and affordable multifamily, senior and supportive housing projects, as well as student housing and higher education projects; guiding her clients through the construction documentation and permitting processes without losing sight of their original vision and goals.
Susan is one of K&A’s in-house experts with regards to interpretation and application of building and accessibility codes as well as construction documentation, detail review, and project coordination. Skilled in quality management, her broad portfolio of knowledge, adherence to standards and technical oversight has positioned her to become the head of K&A’s QA/QC department. Susan ensures the workmanship and output of K&A projects is consistent with established standards and quality objectives. Since taking on this role, Susan augmented the project review process with the development and implementation of enhanced quality assurance/quality control checklists, procedures and policies; thus providing quality control reviews at multiple, strategic points throughout the design process.
Outside her work at K&A, Susan is an active community volunteer, animal lover and outdoor enthusiast. She volunteers for a variety of breast and ovarian cancer organizations, Habitat for Humanity, and has numerous animal rescues to her credit. Among her many hobbies, she considers mountain biking, kayaking, snowboarding, photography and gardening to be her favorites.
