Rush Crossing Trenton, New Jersey

Partially funded through a $22-million dollar HOPE VI Revitalization grant from the United States Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), Rush Crossing is a brand new affordable housing development located in the northwest section of Trenton, New Jersey. Situated on the site of the former Carl Miller Homes public housing project—a previously blighted, once crime-ridden complex that had stood vacant and neglected for years—the new Rush Crossing neighborhood consists of thirteen three-story buildings, and provides a total of 204 units of affordable living to the community.

An important part of the city’s Trenton Station Redevelopment Area Plan, this Transit-Oriented Development project takes advantage of the site’s proximity to key transportation nodes within the urban fabric of the city, including the Trenton Transportation Center, located a half mile to the south, providing easy access to Philadelphia, New York City and beyond.

Offering affordable rentals in one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom modern apartment units and townhomes, the new Rush Crossing community was thoughtfully designed to visually fit in with the character of the surrounding neighborhood. Neighborhood amenities include a community room, community gardens, recreational areas for small children, outdoor plaza areas for resident gatherings, and on-site maintenance facilities. There is on-site and dedicated street parking available for residents. The project is a New Jersey Energy Star Development and is certified LEED Silver by the United States Green Building Council.

Expected to cost $105 million when complete, Rush Crossing, in tandem with other components of the Trenton Station Redevelopment Area Plan, is anticipated to act as a catalyst for future redevelopment in the area, and has already laid the groundwork for a successful, dynamic and vibrant local economy and community.
