Lutheran Social Ministries of NJ Burlington Twp, New Jersey

A New Corporate Home for Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey
Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey (LSM-NJ) is a faith based provider whose mission as a not-for-profit organization is to serve residents statewide who are hurt, who are in need, or who have limited choices, regardless of religious background or affiliation.

Their new office building was built on nine acres of land and is 15,100 square feet of space split between two floors. The finished facility consists of a total of 28 private offices, 17 workstations, four conference rooms, a break room, multiple file and storage rooms, and restrooms.

K&A provided programming, conceptual design for both the site and building, schematic design and planning board submission, design development, interior design services—including finish selections and documentation, construction documentation, bidding, and construction administration. Not only was the project on budget, it also represented the successful integration of a variety of core disciplines, including architecture, geotechnical, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and interior design services.

A variety of energy-efficient components were successfully integrated into the LSM-NJ project, including tinted glazing, exterior window shades/louvers, natural daylighting via skylights, and intentional building siting and orientation for maximum solar efficiency in terms of the long-term energy utilization and consumption of the facility.

The building promotes a warm, welcoming and communal working environment that includes a welcoming 2-story stone foyer, skylights, a large full kitchen with dining space, as well as an outdoor patio with tables and chairs. Keeping the connection to the outdoors was important and was achieved with large windows on exterior walls in all public spaces.
