LIFE St. Mary Bensalem, Pennsylvania

Conveniently located within one mile of St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, this new LIFE Center supports the services offered to frail seniors through the national PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) program. The LIFE Center was developed in a vacant racquetball club constructed in the 1980s. This dilapidated two-story building with 23,000 square feet of space was completely renovated and transformed to accommodate the diverse and specialized requirements of the PACE program. St Mary is the sponsor of this program that serves approximately 250 frail seniors who live within the surrounding community. They receive comprehensive services in their homes and at the LIFE Center, and it is these services that prevent them needing to live in nursing homes.

On an average weekday, up to 125 clients visit the LIFE Center where they engage in recreational and social activities in the bright, spacious dayrooms. One dayroom has comfortable seating and a stone fireplace for individual or small-group activities. A second, larger dayroom has multiple windows with views of the mature trees around the building. Glass doors lead outside to the secure landscaped garden and patio where activities are scheduled during nice weather. During their visits, the seniors utilize the full-service primary health center that also offers on-site specialty care, the gym for physical and occupational therapy, personal care suites, hair salon, and the dining room where hot lunch is served daily. Seniors who experience dementia have a quiet space specially designed for their comfort, safety and daily activities. Administrative, transportation and other staff workspaces complete the LIFE Center.
