Coral Street Arts House Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

K&A provided complete A/E services for the conversion/adaptive reuse of a vacant, 5-story former factory building in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. The old textile factory was built in 1886 and was fully operational until the mid 1990s when it was bought by the New Kensington Development Corporation. In 2004, the structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Coral Street Arts House now includes 27 units of housing and studio facilities for local low-income artists. The first floor contains a Community Room, Lounge, Management Offices and Maintenance functions. A common Laundry Facility on the first floor is available for use by the residents.

The building is a typical example of the Kensington area’s industrial heritage and has been identified by the City of Philadelphia as having historic significance. Coral Street Arts House received a Grand Jury Award from the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
