UMDNJ University Housing & Mixed-Use Facility

K&A provided comprehensive architectural and engineering design services for this new fourteen-story mixed-use student housing residence and parking garage facility for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Located on the corner of Norfolk and Market Streets in downtown Newark, the facility offers commercial retail spaces and a state-of-the-art fitness center on the ground floor, a five-story parking garage for 525 cars, and nine stories of student housing—offering the university population a total of 234 new units with 465 beds.

The structural system of the project includes cast-in-place concrete construction for the parking garage and a steel and concrete plank structure with a prefabricated, panelized brick veneer exterior wall system for the residential floors of the building.
