130 Easton Ave is a student housing development located near the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus. This mixed-use project provides thirty-five one-, two-, and three-bedroom units of student residences above four units of commercial retail space facing Easton Avenue. Two of the finished units are fully accessible and five units are fully adaptable. The building is fully sprinklered and also has an entry security system. Each unit is air-conditioned, with a full kitchen, dishwasher, microwave, range, granite counters, hardwood, and ceramic tile. Tenants also have access to on-site laundry and off-street loading. The exterior of the building is finished with brick and fiber-cement board – these materials provide a modest and clean appearance that relates to the surrounding area while also being durable and very easy to maintain.
K&A incorporated a variety of sustainable features with 130 Easton Ave. The on-site stormwater management system helps control the rate at which water from the site enters the City’s recovery system. This functions by temporarily holding water within cisterns during heavy rain events. Energy efficient wall assemblies help decrease the building’s heating and cooling load by providing better insulation, and “panelized” wood framing helps reduce the amount of waste associated with the construction process.
