Beth Kitchen is president of Kitchen & Associates Architectural Services, PA, a professional architecture, planning and interior design firm that she co-founded with her husband, architect Benjamin Kitchen in 1971. A licensed Professional Planner, Beth's primary personal and professional expertise lies in the area of urban planning and community redevelopment. She has dedicated herself to all facets of affordable housing and community revitalization including advocacy and education, as well as working with community groups and non-profits to help establish and achieve their goals. Beth's involvement in the rejuvenation of city neighborhoods is evident throughout the mid-Atlantic region by the creation of affordable housing, community centers, and other necessary facilities typically missing in underserved communities.
An active member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association, and Urban Land Institute, Beth currently serves on the Board of New Jersey Future, an organization devoted to promoting Smart Growth throughout the state. Beth also serves as an advisor and board member for Homes for All, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide decent, affordable, suitable and safe housing for families of all income levels. To further support the efforts of urban communities, Beth works with local and regional health care providers and educational institutions to become involved with their own neighborhoods, encouraging them to invest and participate in their own "back yards".
In addition, Beth also has significant expertise in providing quality living and healthcare environments for older adults. She recently participated two years in a row as a guest speaker at the "Hospital Design And Upgrade" conferences in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Beth discussed growing trends in the health care industry with her presentations, "Developing Multi-Faceted Health Facilities for an Aging Population" and "The Role of the Physical Environment in the Hospitals of Tomorrow"
The recipient of numerous awards, including "50 of the Finest Graduates" from Rutgers University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree, Beth also holds a M.C.P. and a M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Beth is a graduate of Leadership New Jersey and has completed a range of business management coursework in Wharton's Executive Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Beth has led K&A to be one of the largest Woman-Owned Businesses and one of the largest Architectural Firms in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Region (Philadelphia Business Journal), in addition to one of the largest Architectural Firms in the State of New Jersey (New Jersey Biz).
