Mary M. Johannesen AIA, LEED®AP

Mary is a passionate and committed practitioner, and an advocate for the creation of senior and affordable family residences that promote community, safety, sustainability, and dignity.

A Proven Manager
Since joining K&A in 1994, Mary has worked diligently to develop and refine design philosophies and methodologies and project management techniques that ensure budget- and schedule-compliant construction. She is particularly well-versed and experienced in the development of projects that rely on funding by Low Income Housing Tax Credits and other federal and state funding programs typically associated with affordable housing.

A Leader in Designing for Seniors
As a principal of K&A and leader of the firm’s Senior Living design studio, Mary’s knowledge and guidance has helped create successful, award-winning communities and living environments that respond to the physical, emotional and social needs of older adults. Her experience includes Active Adult communities, Continuing Care Retirement Communities, Assisted Living Facilities, and Hospital and Medical Facilities.  She is also a nationally-recognized expert on the planning and design of PACE and adult daycare centers.
