55 Harvey Street at Providence Square represents the second phase of a two-phased redevelopment plan—part of the highly successful Providence Square Project in downtown New Brunswick, New Jersey. While the first phase saw the redevelopment of a former cigar factory into new affordable senior residences, the second phase at 55 Harvey offers 53 one-bedroom apartments in a new 53,000 square foot, four-story, brick masonry building. The design of the project is intended to seamlessly blend with the existing first phase of Providence Square, creating a cohesive community campus environment for building residents. Twenty percent of the facility’s units, intended for supportive housing for the frail elderly, are designed with full accessibility, while the remaining eighty percent are fully adaptable if necessary.

55 Harvey includes administrative offices, activity rooms, common laundry facilities and a multi-purpose community room with an adjacent outdoor patio area, which overlooks a nearby neighborhood park. Providence Square’s location in New Brunswick provides residents with access to a variety of urban amenities, as well as close proximity to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital. Phase II of this project was awarded Silver LEED® for Homes Certification under the Mid-Rise Pilot Program, and includes a number of sustainable design features—photovoltaic panels on the roof, solar hot water and New Jersey Energy Star Homes-compliant windows and appliances.
